Itinerary
Begin your adventure with a flight from Islamabad to Skardu โ one of the most scenic air journeys in the world. Operated daily by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), this route offers breathtaking aerial views of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) and K2 (8,611 m) on clear days. Since flights operate on visual navigation, departures depend on weather conditions. Upon arrival, our representative will warmly welcome you at Skardu Airport.
After a brief rest, drive towards Shigar Valley, a lush and historic region watered by the Shigar River. Stretching about 170 km from Skardu to Askole, Shigar serves as the gateway to the mighty Karakoram Range and is home to the valleyโs largest settlement โ the town of Shigar.
Visit the magnificent Serena Shigar Fort, built in the 17th century by the Amacha Dynasty. This beautifully restored heritage site includes the old house, Baradari pavilion, Amacha Garden, and Raja Mosque. Nearby stands the Amburiq Mosque, dating back to the 14th century, recognized by UNESCO in 2002 as a protected cultural landmark.
In the evening, experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the Sarfaranga Cold Desert, the second-highest cold desert in the world, located at an altitude of 7,500 feet. After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to the Manthal Buddha Rock, a remarkable relic of Skarduโs ancient Buddhist heritage. Carved on a massive granite boulder, this 8th-century relief sculpture features a majestic Buddha figure flanked by two standing Maitreya (future Buddhas) and surrounded by twenty smaller Bodhisattvas (disciples), a symbol of peace, enlightenment, and the regionโs spiritual past.
Next, head towards the historic Kharpocho Fort, often referred to as the โKing of Fortsโ due to its grandeur and architectural complexity. Built over 1,200 years ago, the fort once served as the royal residence for the rulers of Baltistan. Perched dramatically atop a rocky hill overlooking the Indus River (Sange Chho), it features seven to eight levels, hidden tunnels, and an impressive design meant for both defense and command. The fort is also known as the โLion Fortโ, named after the roaring lionโs head that once adorned its main gate to intimidate invaders.
Later, stroll through the Skardu Bazaar, a vibrant local market where you can shop for traditional Balti handicrafts, gemstones, woolen shawls, and organic dry fruits. The lively atmosphere offers an authentic glimpse into local culture and everyday life.

Your first stop is Upper Kachura Lake, located about 50 minutes (29.6 km) from Skardu at an elevation of 2,500 meters. En route, pass through Gilgit, the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan, and continue your journey to Hunza (approximately 2 hours 15 minutes / 97.4 km). This route offers some of the most stunning mountain views, including glimpses of Rakaposhi (7,788 m) and the meeting point of three great mountain ranges โ the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindu Kush.
Make a stop at Guro Bazaar and the Tectonic Plates Collision Point at Chalt, Nagar Valley, where the Indian and Eurasian plates meet โ a geological wonder that shaped the mighty Karakoram.
